It's frustrating though, having the kit and not being able to take advantage of it. I've decided to rectify this all by buying a cheap PCI graphics card so it can just go VGA to VGA without hassle. And Windows 10 has no clue what to make of it, whether it's system update, device manager, their forums, etc.

According to the manufacturer, the drivers are built into the adapter itself, and they haven't been forthcoming when I've asked for the. AIDA64 also doesn't know what to make of it beyond "msusb", and google brings up some suspicious files, "msusb.dll" itself appears to be a trojan. The device appears on device manager as "msusb", and a third party piece of software calls it "LG HID-compliant vendor-defined device". if you have an unused HDMI output, HDMI to VGA adapters don't need any drivers installed and are fairly cheap.Įdited by jonuk76, 25 November 2020 - 07:41 PM. If you have other unused video outputs other than VGA - there might be better options for connecting a monitor.
At least one review states the supplied driver is detected as malware, so be aware of that possibility (I think this is a real possibility with no-name hardware from unknown brands). Who makes it, or do you have a link to the actual item you have? One example I found here has the driver built into it (stored in the device itself, but it still has to be installed.).

So you'd have to install the correct drivers for the USB adaptor. USB is not normally a video output (well OK some new computers support DisplayPort over a USB-C connector, but this doesn't apply here). It's not just a digital to analogue conversion - like say HDMI - VGA. Would it be fair to say an external graphics card with another VGA socket would be a solution as trying to use a USB adapter isn't working at all, but I just wondered why there is no signal to the computer via this means.Ī "USB monitor adapter" is essentially an external graphics card connected via USB.
There is no damage or tear to the monitors, cables, or sockets. When attempting to use the USB adapter, the cables are fastened to a USB3 socket. I have used the VGA cable without the adapter on both monitors and both transmit a signal. It transmits a signal with the other monitor, or without the adapter to the computer VGA socket. I have two monitors, one of which I cannot receive a signal from using a VGA to USB adapter. Do both monitors - one at a time - work from the VGA out port ?ĭo either monitor - one at a time - work off the USB adapter ?Īnd have you got the adapter plugged into a USB3 socket ?
